I'd love to see the one or two file implementation.

I just downloaded the source code and looked at it. What I don't understand is why make such a simple concept so complicated? The state machine can be generated via a code snippet or an XML->XSLT transformation. Yet you have this framework - far from simple, I'd add - which does something which one or two files are enough to do.
